Inohana Castle Ruins
Chiba, Japan
Inohana Castle Ruins in Chiba, Japan, also known as Chiba Castle, were originally built in the 12th century by the samurai Chiba clan who ruled the region until the 15th century. The castle was a hirayama-style (lowland hill) fortress situated on a small hill and was abandoned after the clan was defeated in 1455. Today, only earthworks, moats, and some stone remnants remain at the site, which has been developed into Inohana Park.
A modern castle tower built in 1967 houses the Chiba City Folk Museum, showcasing local history and samurai culture. The area is popular for its scenic views including cherry blossoms in spring and contains monuments honoring important historical figures connected to the Chiba clan and the region's past. The ruins reflect Japan’s feudal era and the legacy of one of its early influential samurai families.
