Jardin Majorelle
Marrakesh, Morocco
Jardin Majorelle in Marrakesh, Morocco, is a famous botanical and artist's garden created by the French Orientalist painter Jacques Majorelle starting in 1923. Over almost 40 years, he developed the garden with vibrant plants from around the world and built a striking Cubist-style villa painted in a unique cobalt blue now called Majorelle Blue.
The garden was opened to the public in 1947, but after Majorelle's divorce in the 1950s, it fell into neglect. In the 1980s, the fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé bought and restored the garden, turning it into a renowned tourist site. Since then, it has housed the Berber Museum and attracted visitors worldwide for its colorful design, rare plants, flowing water features, and tranquil atmosphere.
Yves Saint Laurent’s ashes were scattered in the garden after his death, further linking the site to his legacy.
