Kizhi is an island located near the center of Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia, Russia. It is about 6 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide, situated roughly 68 kilometers from the regional capital Petrozavodsk.

The island is famous for its unique wooden architecture, with a collection of 89 wooden monuments ranging from the 15th to the 20th century. These include the notable Kizhi Pogost, an early 18th-century site featuring two wooden churches—one with 22 domes and another with nine domes—and a bell tower, all constructed without nails. Kizhi and its architectural ensemble are protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The surrounding area of Lake Onega is vast, with approximately 1,650 islands, characterized by shallow waters around Kizhi, differing from the lake's average depth. The island remains an open-air museum that preserves Karelian wooden architecture, culture, and history, making it a significant cultural and historical attraction in the Karelia region.
