Korets Castle
Korets, Ukraine, Ukraine
Korets Castle in Korets, Ukraine, was constructed around 1400 by Prince Feodor Ostrogski or Prince Dymitr Korybut on the banks of the Korchyk River as a stone fortress with a prominent main tower that now adorns the town's emblem, serving as the residence for the princely House of Korets.
Expanded in the 16th-17th centuries with brick fortifications, defensive walls, and a moat, it endured Tatar raids like the 1495 defeat of Khan Mengli Giray's son and Cossack assaults during the 1648 Khmelnytsky Uprising, later transitioning under owners like Józef Czartoryski into a palace with a renowned porcelain factory producing wares rivaling Meissen quality until a 1797 fire.
Fires in the 18th and 1832 devastated the structure, leaving imposing ruins of walls and towers that dominate the skyline, preserved as a historical site amid Korets' monastic and church landmarks in Rivne Oblast.
