Kryvche Castle
Kryvche, Ukraine, Ukraine
Kryvche Castle in Kryvche, Ukraine, was built in the first half of the 17th century by the Kątski family as a rectangular bastioned fortress on a hilltop overlooking valleys of the Tsyhanka River tributaries, featuring four three-story corner towers, thick walls measuring 78 by 53 meters, and an eastern entrance gate for defense in Podilia's volatile border region.
Captured by Bohdan Khmelnytsky's Cossacks in 1648, then by Turkish forces in 1672 where Sultan Mehmed IV briefly stayed—it served as a Polish Crown base against Ottoman advances until 1699, later becoming a noble residence before partial demolition in the 19th century for building materials by owner Lazar Zeydman.
Today, two surviving towers connected by a rebuilt wall form part of the Castles of Ternopil Oblast reserve, standing as a national architectural monument amid nearby caves and churches.
