Letychivsʹkyy Zamok
Letychiv, Ukraine, Ukraine
Letychiv Fortress, often called Letychiv Castle, in Letychiv, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ukraine, was built in 1598 from limestone by Polish noble Jan Potocki to shield Podolia from frequent Crimean Tatar raids, forming a robust defensive complex with high walls around the town center.
This Renaissance-style stronghold endured sieges during the 1648 Khmelnytsky Uprising, Ottoman occupation in 1672, and later Polish-Turkish conflicts, serving as a key outpost amid the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's border struggles.
Today, only fragments remain including one surviving tower near the Assumption Church, standing as a poignant ruin amid the town's historical landscape scarred by wars and pogroms.
