Macizo Peñas Blancas, located in the Jinotega Department of northern Nicaragua, is a mountainous nature reserve known for its cloud forests, waterfalls, rich biodiversity, and stunning landscapes.

The reserve forms part of the buffer zone of the Bosawás Biosphere Reserve, one of the largest tropical forest regions in the Western Hemisphere, and covers more than 11,000 hectares of protected land. Rising to elevations above 1,700 meters, the massif provides habitat for a wide variety of wildlife, including jaguars, pumas, howler monkeys, orchids, bromeliads, and the resplendent quetzal.

Its cool, misty cloud forests are among the most biologically important ecosystems in Nicaragua. Visitors are drawn to Macizo Peñas Blancas for hiking, birdwatching, waterfall exploration, and panoramic mountain views. The area also supports rural communities that practice sustainable coffee farming, offering travelers a chance to experience both the region’s natural beauty and local culture.
