Margina
Romania, Romania
Margina is a commune in Timiș County, western Romania, comprising nine villages—Breazova, Bulza, Coșevița, Coșteiu de Sus, Groși, Margina (residence), Nemeșești, Sintești, and Zorani—situated 8 km east of Făget along the Bega River in a hilly landscape covering 132 square kilometers.
First mentioned before 1300 as a Vlach district seat alternating between Hunedoara and Timiș counties and documented in 1365, it hosted a medieval fortress first noted in 1439, destroyed by John Török in 1551, rebuilt in 1554, occupied by Turks until Sigismund Báthory's liberation, and ceded back in 1658 before demolition post-Treaty of Passarowitz, with ruins visible into the late 18th century.
Under Austrian rule as a Banat-Transylvania border settlement, it features the 1734 wooden church "Sfântul Nicolae," a national monument, alongside agriculture, woodworking traditions, and ties to writer Sorin Titel's birthplace amid post-1989 rural shifts.
