The Mauritanian National Museum, located in Nouakchott, Mauritania, was built in 1972 with the assistance of Chinese cooperation and occupies a two-story building that also houses the Mauritanian Institute of Scientific Research, the Manuscripts Conservation Centre, and the National Library.

The museum features archaeological and ethnographic collections that provide a comprehensive journey into Mauritania's heritage, displaying artifacts such as Mousterian, Aterian, and Neolithic tools recovered from historic sites like Koumbi Saleh, Aoudaghost, and Azougui. Exhibits include local costumes, sherds, arrowheads, miniatures, and everyday objects, reflecting the diverse cultural groups and nomadic lifestyles of Mauritania.

The museum serves as an educational and cultural hub for both locals and visitors, emphasizing the preservation and celebration of the country's deep historical roots and artistic traditions.
