Minar-e-Pakistan
Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan
Minar-e-Pakistan, rising gracefully from the heart of Lahore’s Greater Iqbal Park, is a powerful emblem of Pakistan’s birth and the aspirations of its people. This towering monument marks the historic site where, on March 23, 1940, the All-India Muslim League passed the Lahore Resolution—an event that laid the ideological foundation for the creation of Pakistan.
Designed by architect Nasreddin Murat-Khan, the structure blends Mughal, Islamic, and modernist architectural styles, standing 70 meters tall with a base shaped like a blooming flower. Its layered platforms, made from uncut stones to polished marble, symbolize the stages of the independence struggle—from humble beginnings to triumphant realization.
The monument’s base is adorned with inscriptions of the Lahore Resolution in Urdu, Bengali, and English, along with Quranic verses, the national anthem, and excerpts from speeches by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal. These engravings serve as a living archive of the nation’s ideological roots. At night, the tower is illuminated, casting a serene glow over the surrounding gardens and walkways, while offering a striking view of the nearby Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort.
