Mocioni Castle
Bulcs, Romania, Romania
Mocioni Castle in Bulcs (now Bulci), Arad County, Romania, is a neoclassical noble residence originally built in the early 19th century as a smaller manor, later expanded around 1858 by Antoniu Mocsony de Foen, an Aromanian noble who integrated the central structure with lateral wings and added family crests on terraces.
The Mocioni family, prominent in Banat politics and culture, enhanced the estate with a splendid armory hall featuring a grand fireplace, a local church, school, and dendrological park including a 1912 greenhouse under Antoniu II Mocsony, royal hunt master who hosted King Carol II, Queen Elena, and Mihai I.
Nationalized post-1948, it served as a neuropsychiatric hospital then TB sanatorium, now under Arad County Hospital administration amid decay despite its historical ties to Romanian identity and royal visits.
