Museo Dolores Olmedo
Mexico City, Mexico
Museo Dolores Olmedo is an art museum in Xochimilco, in the southern part of Mexico City, housed in the former 16th‑ and 17th‑century hacienda known as La Noria that once belonged to the businesswoman and philanthropist Dolores Olmedo Patiño. She donated her vast private collection to the Mexican public, creating a museum that opened in 1994 and now holds the world’s largest permanent collection of works by Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, including many intimate portraits and key paintings from their careers. The museum also displays pieces by Angelina Beloff and other Mexican artists, as well as a large assembly of pre‑Hispanic, colonial, folk, and contemporary works, creating a broad panorama of Mexican art history. Set in spacious gardens with peacocks and hairless Xoloitzcuintle dogs roaming around, the site offers a peaceful, almost village‑like atmosphere just a short trip from the city center.
