Muzeul Municipal Dej in Dej, Romania, is a cultural institution founded in 1899 by the Solnoc-Dăbâca County Society for Literature, History, and Ethnography, initially housing 3,791 artifacts from archaeology, art, and ethnography before temporary closure and relocation of collections to Cluj and Budapest museums. Reestablished post-WWII and achieving municipal status in 1968, it now occupies a historic central building in Piața Bobâlna with six exhibition rooms displaying prehistoric finds like Stone Age tools and Bronze Age axes from local sites, Roman artifacts including coins and items from the Cășei castrum, medieval Christian relics, modern furniture and guild flags, economic tezaurs reflecting Dej's salt trade prosperity, and ethnographic costumes with household items showcasing regional folk art. The museum highlights Dej's evolution from prehistoric settlement hub to medieval salt commerce center, offering periodic exhibits and free access to its diverse patrimony.
