Mykulynetskyy Castle
Mykulyntsi, Ukraine, Ukraine
Mykulynetskyy Castle in Mykulyntsi, Ukraine, was built around 1550 by the Sieniawski princes on a hill near the Seret River as a defensive residence with four wings stretching 75 meters, two-meter-thick outer walls, corner towers, and large cellars to protect against frequent Tatar raids.
It endured a 15-day siege in 1672 by Ottoman forces under Ibrahim Shishman, who captured it after negotiations failed, leading to significant destruction and loss of life, though hot resin traces remain on the walls from the defense.
Rebuilt in the 18th century into a more residential structure, it fell into disrepair by the early 20th century, later repurposed as a fabric factory in 1815 by Baron Jan Konopka, leaving only weathered ruins of its formidable past amid the Ternopil Oblast landscape.
