The Ngondo Festival is one of the most important cultural celebrations of the Sawa peoples of coastal Cameroon.

Held annually in Douala along the banks of the Wouri River, the festival brings together communities to celebrate their heritage, traditions, and spiritual connection to water. The festival is best known for its sacred river ceremony, in which a chosen initiate dives into the river to communicate with ancestral water spirits and returns with messages believed to guide the community.

Traditional dances, canoe races, music, cultural performances, and colorful processions also form an important part of the celebrations. Usually taking place in December, the Ngondo Festival attracts both locals and visitors who come to experience the rich culture of the Sawa people. It is widely regarded as a symbol of cultural identity, unity, and the preservation of traditional customs in Douala and across coastal Cameroon.
