Nirengi Castle Ruins
Toyohashi, Japan
Nirengi Castle Ruins in Toyohashi, Japan, were originally constructed in 1493 during the Sengoku period as a strategic military base by Toda Munemitsu. The castle played a key role in local power struggles and battles, witnessing conflict between regional clans and serving as a defense point near the confluence of rivers.
Though no buildings remain today, earthen ramparts and portions of the original dry moat are still visible, and the site has been converted into Oguchi Park, where visitors can enjoy the natural scenery and learn about the castle’s history through monuments and signboards. The ruins reflect the turbulent medieval era of Japan and provide insight into the region’s feudal past.
