Norskedalen Nature & Heritage Center is a nonprofit nature and cultural preserve near Coon Valley in southwest Wisconsin, occupying more than 440 acres in the state’s Driftless Region.
The name “Norskedalen” means “Norwegian Valley,” reflecting its focus on the natural environment and the heritage of Norwegian settlers who came to the Coulee Region in the 19th century. The site includes nine miles of trails through forests, prairies, and stream corridors, alongside restored historic log buildings such as pioneer homesteads, a schoolhouse, and a blacksmith shop that together form an open‑air museum.
Norskedalen offers educational programs, guided tours, and seasonal events that highlight both the area’s ecology and its immigrant history, making it a place where visitors can walk in nature while learning about the lives and traditions of early Norwegian farm families.
