Norviliškės Castle
Lithuania, Lithuania
Norviliškės Castle in Lithuania, also known as Norviliškės Manor, is a Renaissance-style castle first mentioned in 1586.
Around 1617, the estate’s owners donated land to the Franciscans, who built a monastery and church in Renaissance style circa 1745. The monastery was reconstructed in the late 18th century by Kazimieras Kaminskis. After the November Uprising of 1831, Russian authorities closed the monastery, repurposing it as barracks and later a girls’ boarding school, while the adjacent Church of St. Mary Compassionate Mother was also closed.
A new wooden church was built in 1929. The manor stood abandoned for decades until 2005 when restoration began, supported by the PHARE program.
