Oola Castle is a late 16th-century tower house located on Oola Hill in County Limerick, Ireland.
Built by the powerful O'Brien family, it served as both a fortified residence and a symbol of their influence in the region during a period of political and military change. The castle is a classic example of an Irish tower house, featuring multiple storeys, thick stone walls, defensive corner turrets, fireplaces, and large windows that reflected a growing emphasis on comfort as well as security.
Its elevated position provided commanding views over the surrounding countryside. Although now a ruin, Oola Castle remains a prominent local landmark and an important part of County Limerick’s heritage. The site is also notable for archaeological discoveries made nearby, including ancient deer antlers and Bronze Age artifacts, highlighting the area's long history of human activity.
