Oradea Fortress in Oradea, Romania, began as an 11th-century fortified monastery and episcopal residence established by King Ladislaus I, evolving through Mongol destruction in 1241 and subsequent rebuilds into a prominent bastion fort by the late 16th century under Italian architect Giulio Cesare Baldigara.

Its distinctive pentagonal layout features five corner bastions—Golden, Red, Crăişorul, Bethlen, and Ciunt—surrounding a princely palace initiated by Gabriel Bethlen in 1619, enhanced with thermal-water moats that never froze, enabling it to withstand sieges like the 1598 Ottoman assault before falling in 1660 and Habsburg reconquest in 1692.

One of Romania's rare Italian Renaissance-style bastion fortresses, it now thrives as a restored cultural hub hosting events amid its robust stone walls and historical interiors.
