Palácio da Bolsa

Porto, Portugal

Palácio da Bolsa, also known as the Stock Exchange Palace, is a 19th‑century neoclassical building in the historic centre of Porto, Portugal, located on Praça Infante Dom Henrique opposite the Church of São Francisco. It was built starting in 1842 as the headquarters of the city’s Commercial Association to replace an older exchange, and its elegant façade combines classical symmetry with a grand staircase and an interior courtyard lit by a glass canopy. Inside, the palace is famous for its opulent rooms, especially the Arab Room (Salão Árabe), a richly decorated Moorish‑style hall inspired by the Alhambra that hosts official receptions and is among the most photographed spaces in Portugal. The building is a designated National Monument and one of Porto’s top tourist attractions, offering guided tours that showcase its ceremonial rooms, historic frescoes, and role as a major venue for political, cultural, and business events.
