Parcul Castelului
Romania, Romania
Parcul Castelului refers to the historic English-style dendrological park surrounding Castelul Gyulay (also called Castelul de la Mintia) in Mintia near Deva, Hunedoara County, Romania. Developed in the 19th century by Count Lajos Gyulay and expanded by Géza Kuun, it originally spanned about five hectares with rare exotic tree species, rose bushes, century-old giants like a secular oak and twin plane trees, and was once decorated with ancient Roman statues, altars, and lapidaria making it a renowned cultural attraction for scholars and nobility. Named after great Hungarian writers by Kuun, the park complemented the neoclassical castle as a model estate with greenhouses and vineyards, though nationalized after 1945 and now partially preserved amid conservation efforts despite some decline.
