Parque Nacional Jeannette Kawas, near Tela in Atlántida Department, Honduras, is a vast protected area spanning 781.62 square kilometers along the northern Caribbean coast, established in 1994 and renamed to honor environmental activist Jeannette Kawas who fought palm plantations before her 1995 murder.
It encompasses diverse ecosystems including pristine white-sand beaches like Playa Cocalito and Los Desnudos, lush tropical rainforests, mangrove swamps, lagoons, rivers, and offshore coral reefs teeming with marine life, reaching altitudes up to 900 meters.
The park is a biodiversity hotspot home to howler monkeys, manatees, over 400 bird species like toucans and quetzals, and is a Ramsar wetland site ideal for hiking, snorkeling, birdwatching, and boat tours from Tela, though access involves rough roads or water routes.
