"Pelișor" Castle
Sinaia, Romania, Romania
Pelișor Castle in Sinaia, Romania, was constructed between 1899 and 1903 by order of King Carol I as a more intimate Art Nouveau residence for his nephew Crown Prince Ferdinand and wife Queen Marie, contrasting the grander Peleș Castle nearby.
Designed by Czech architect Karel Liman with Viennese artist Bernhard Ludwig's interiors, it blends timber framing, neo-Romanian towers clad in colorful Bukovina-style tiles, stained glass, marble fireplaces, and eclectic rooms including Marie's "Golden Room" with Celtic-Byzantine motifs she personally decorated.
Home to the royal heirs until 1947, it now operates as a museum showcasing turn-of-the-century Viennese furniture, Tiffany glassware, and royal artifacts amid the Bucegi Mountains' scenic domain.
