Pescador Island
Philippines , Philippines
Pescador Island, locally known as Agad-Agad, is a tiny limestone islet just a few kilometers off the western coast of Cebu in the Philippines, specifically near the municipality of Moalboal in the Tañon Strait.
Its name comes from the Spanish word “pescador,” meaning “fisherman,” reflecting the abundant fish and rich marine life around its coral reefs that have historically attracted local fishermen. The island is only about 50 meters in diameter but sits in waters that drop to around 300 meters deep, and unlike many Cebu islands, it has no white sand beach—instead, coral rocks cover almost its entire surface.
In 1990, Pescador Island was declared a marine park and fish sanctuary to protect its vibrant ecosystem, which includes over 2,500 fish species, colorful soft and hard corals, sea turtles, frogfish, eels, and even the famous “sardine run” where thousands of sardines swim together in mesmerizing patterns. The clear, warm waters make it a top destination for snorkeling and scuba diving, with shallow areas ideal for beginners and deep walls and underwater caves like the “Cathedral” cave appealing to experienced divers.
