Playa Tortuguero is a secluded, serene beach located between Vega Baja and Manatí on Puerto Rico's north coast, known for its tranquil natural beauty and unique ecological significance as the gateway to Laguna Tortuguero, Puerto Rico's only coastal lagoon and one of the island's largest freshwater ecosystems.

This hidden gem features a long, narrow stretch of fine sand accessible via narrow Highway 6671 that runs between the lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean through coastal forest, offering a peaceful, less crowded beach experience perfect for relaxation and nature activities. 

The real highlight is the nearby Laguna Tortuguero Nature Reserve, a protected 2.43 km² area containing about 708 million gallons of freshwater, home to 144 exotic plant species including seven insectivorous plants and two found only at this location, plus numerous fish species and occasional manatees that enter through a channel connecting the lagoon to the sea.

The area is a birdwatcher's paradise with 144+ bird species including exotic and endangered migratory and water birds, making it a vital stopover for avian wildlife. Visitors can enjoy free admission with amenities including restrooms, outdoor showers, gazebos, picnic areas, and parking, and activities such as kayaking and boating in the calm lagoon, sport fishing, hiking to Nido del Águila (Eagle's Nest) for breathtaking panoramic views of the lagoon, beach, and Atlantic Ocean, snorkeling, and jet skiing or kitesurfing for thrill-seekers.
