Pogany mansion in Păclișa, Hunedoara
Poklisa, Romania, Romania
The Pogany Mansion in Păclișa, Hunedoara County, Romania, is a mid-19th-century Baroque-style noble residence built by the elite Hungarian Pogány family in the Hațeg region, once home to Margit Pogány, muse of sculptor Constantin Brâncuși, and later residence of Károly Pogány, a prominent prefect who hosted Archduke Franz Ferdinand there in 1896. This two-story mansion with a mansard roof, corner tower, and surrounding 18-acre dendrological park was nationalized after World War II, serving first as a children's sanatorium for miners' kids and later as administrative headquarters for a neuropsychiatric hospital until the 2000s. Returned to heirs post-1990, it was offered for sale around 2015 and is now undergoing conservation with plans for tourist redevelopment by private owner Dan Felea.
