Quarteira is a busy coastal town and parish in the central Algarve, belonging to the municipality of Loulé and sitting between Albufeira to the west and the upscale resort of Vilamoura to the east, roughly 18 kilometers from Faro Airport.

It grew from a small fishing village into a major holiday destination, now known mainly for its long, flat Blue Flag beach with calm waters, a wide seafront promenade lined with cafés and restaurants, and a large concentration of apartment blocks and hotels packed along the coast.

The town is popular with families and budget‑conscious visitors who still want easy beach access, local seafood restaurants, markets, and a lively nightlife scene, as well as being a convenient base for playing nearby world‑class golf courses in Vilamoura and elsewhere on the Algarve coast.
