Rákóczi-Bornemisza Castel in Gurghiu, Mureș County, Romania, traces its origins to a 14th-century fortress first documented in 1358 as a regional stronghold, later serving as a hunting residence for Prince György Rákóczi I who built a Renaissance manor at its base in the 1640s. Leased to the Bornemisza family in 1717 for 99 years, they expanded it in the 18th century with Baroque additions like a clock tower, family chapel, paper mill, glassworks, and administrative buildings amid economic development. Passing through noble hands including Archduke Rudolf in the 1880s who modernized it for hunts, it now stands under county museum care as a preserved historical site with workshops during open days.
