Rattin Castle is a medieval tower house in County Westmeath, Ireland, built during the 15th or early 16th century as a fortified residence for the D’Arcy family.

Situated on elevated ground near the border with County Meath, it was designed to oversee and protect the surrounding lands and routes. The castle remained associated with the D’Arcy family for centuries, but its fortunes declined after periods of political upheaval and land confiscations in the 17th century.

Over time, it fell into ruin, although much of the structure survived, including its thick stone walls, vaulted chambers, stairways, and defensive features. Today, Rattin Castle stands as an impressive historic ruin and a notable example of an Irish medieval tower house. Its well-preserved remains offer visitors a glimpse into Ireland’s feudal past and the defensive architecture used by noble families during the Middle Ages.
