Roscrea Castle is a well-preserved medieval castle located in the center of Roscrea, County Tipperary, Ireland.

Originally founded as a wooden fort in 1213 on the orders of King John of England, it was later rebuilt in stone during the late 13th century as part of the Anglo-Norman effort to strengthen control over the region. The castle features a fortified courtyard, impressive gatehouse, thick defensive walls, and two large corner towers.

Unlike many Norman castles, it was designed around a strong gatehouse rather than a central keep, making it a distinctive example of medieval military architecture. Over the centuries, Roscrea Castle served many purposes, including a noble residence, military barracks, school, library, and sanatorium. Today, it is a protected national monument and part of the Roscrea Heritage Centre, where visitors can explore its rich history alongside the nearby Damer House and historic gardens.
