Ruins Madeln
Pratteln, Switzerland, Switzerland
Ruins Madeln are the remnants of a 13th-century medieval castle located on Adler Mountain near Pratteln in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland.
Constructed around 1270 by the Lords of Eptingen as a hilltop fortification with a double wall system and moats, it suffered severe damage in the 1356 Basel earthquake and was never rebuilt.
The site, covered with soil in 1943 to preserve the walls after World War II discoveries including great helms, now serves as a regional heritage landmark accessible for hikes amid forested terrain.
