The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, is the oldest existing cathedral in Central Africa, built between 1892 and 1894 under the direction of Bishop Prosper-Philippe Augouard.

Located on Butte de l’Aiglon hill, it is known for its striking twin towers and slender central spire visible across the city skyline. Originally designed in a Romanesque style, the cathedral underwent several renovations, including the addition of twin towers in 1904 and major restorations in 1952 and 1993 that incorporated modernist architectural motifs while maintaining its historic essence.

The eastern entrance is adorned with two large polychrome statues of Saints Peter and Paul from before 1914. The cathedral has played a vital role in the spiritual and public life of Brazzaville, hosting notable visitors such as General Charles de Gaulle and Pope John Paul II.

It also serves as the final resting place of Cardinal Émile Biayenda and remains a key venue for religious and state ceremonies, symbolizing the religious and architectural identity of the city.
