Sakurabora Castle Ruins

Sakurabora Castle, built in 1544 by the Mitsuki clan in what is now Gero, Gifu Prefecture, served as a winter residence and branch castle while the Mitsuki constructed Matsukura Castle as their new main base.
The castle played a role in regional power struggles during the Sengoku period but fell in 1585 when it was captured by Kanamori Nagachika, who then built the nearby Hagiwara-Suwa Castle. Today, only traces of Sakurabora Castle remain, mainly earthen walls accessible by foot near Hida-Hagiwara Station, serving as a historical reminder of the area’s feudal past.
