Schloss Hilfikon
Villmergen, Switzerland, Switzerland
Schloss Hilfikon is a historic castle with chapel located in Hilfikon village, now part of Villmergen in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, first built as a tower house around 1290 by Markwart and Arnold von Hilfikon.
Passing through noble families including the Meiss, von Seengen, von Gilgen, Lussi, Zwyer, and Tschudi before Augustin Victor Franz Roll acquired it in 1749 and rebuilt the chapel as a replica of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, it served as Catholic General Staff headquarters during the 1712 Toggenburg War.
Sold in 1832 with multiple owners since, the Swiss heritage site of national significance has stood empty since 2015 following owner Louise Schellenberg's death, as heir Felix Schellenberg remains unreachable amid Canadian legal issues.
