Sheikhupura Fort
Sheikhupura, Pakistan, Pakistan
Sheikhupura Fort is a historic Mughal-era fort in the city of Sheikhupura, Punjab, Pakistan.
It was built around 1607 during the reign of Emperor Jahangir, who used the area as a royal hunting retreat and ordered the construction of the fort as a strategic and residential center. Over the centuries, the fort was modified by Sikh rulers, who added buildings decorated with colorful frescoes, and later it was used by the British administration.
It also served as the place where Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s queen, Datar Kaur, lived and where Maharani Jind Kaur was held under house arrest during the British period. The fort is roughly square in shape, with high walls, corner bastions, and a large entrance gate. Today it is a protected historical monument and one of the most important landmarks in Sheikhupura, showcasing the region’s Mughal, Sikh, and colonial heritage.
