Verified Shenborn Palace

Karpaty, Ukraine, Ukraine

Shenborn Palace in Karpaty, Ukraine, is a neo-romantic hunting lodge built between 1890 and 1895 by Count Erwein-Friedrich von Schönborn-Buchheim as a luxurious seasonal residence amid the Carpathian foothills near Chynadiiovo, blending Romanesque, Gothic, and French Renaissance styles with four towers, stained glass, and symbolic features like 365 windows for days in a year, 52 rooms for weeks, and 12 entrances for months.

Surrounded by a 19-hectare dendrological park with rare trees, a lake, and the "spring of youth," it served the aristocratic Schönborn family, major Transcarpathian landowners since 1728 until post-World War II nationalization turned it into the "Karpaty" sanatorium for cardiovascular treatments, preserving some original interiors like fireplaces and chandeliers despite legends of ghosts and Hermann Goering's failed purchase bid.

Today, this architectural gem draws visitors for its scenic location, historical exhibits, and ties to Austro-Hungarian nobility amid Zakarpattia's forested landscapes.
