Shimotsui Castle Ruins
Kurashiki , Japan
Shimotsui Castle Ruins in Kurashiki, Japan, were originally built as a fort between 1573 and 1592 by Ukita Tadaie to oversee the important port of Shimotsui along the Seto Inland Sea.
After the Battle of Sekigahara in 1600, the castle was expanded and rebuilt by Ikeda Nagamasa under Tokugawa Ieyasu’s orders, with stone walls and a small keep added around 1603. The castle served successive lords until it was decommissioned in 1639 due to the "one castle per province" rule.
Today, only stone walls remain, and the area is part of a memorial park where visitors can learn about the castle’s history and enjoy views of the Seto Inland Sea.
