Sines Castle, located in the coastal town of Sines, Portugal, is a medieval fortress built in the early 15th century under King Peter I to defend against pirate raids and protect the growing maritime trade along the Alentejo coast.

Rising on a cliff with prehistoric, Roman, Visigothic, and Moorish layers incorporated into its walls—including remnants of a 7th-century basilica—it features thick battlemented walls, three sturdy towers (two polygonal and one circular), and a prominent keep offering panoramic ocean views.

Expanded under D. João I and modernized in Manueline style by D. Manuel I around 1512, it's famously linked to explorer Vasco da Gama, born nearby in what tradition claims was the governor's residence, and now houses a museum with local history exhibits amid its charming courtyard.

Well-preserved as a national monument, it hosts summer festivals and draws visitors for its strategic perch, defensive architecture, and ties to Portugal's Age of Discoveries.
