Skadar Lake (Lake Skadar), shared by Montenegro and Albania, is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula and one of the most important wetland ecosystems in Europe.
Its surface area changes with the seasons, and about two-thirds of the lake lies within Montenegro, where much of it is protected as Lake Skadar National Park. The lake is renowned for its stunning scenery of mountains, islands, water lilies, and historic monasteries, as well as its rich biodiversity, including hundreds of bird species such as the rare Dalmatian pelican.
