Șoimoș Fortress, located in Șoimoș near Lipova in Arad County, Romania, was built by the late 13th century after the 1241 Tatar invasions on Cioaca Tăutului Hill overlooking the Mureș River, first owned by Ban Paul of Severin around 1272-1275. It changed hands among nobles like Ladislaus Kán II's vassals, became a royal citadel under Charles Robert of Anjou post-1315, passed through Corvin family rule including reconstruction by John Hunyadi around 1438-1453 with Italian influences, and endured sieges by Doja's peasants in 1514, Turkish occupation from 1552 until 1688. Abandoned in 1788 with halted demolition due to remoteness, it now stands as protected ruins offering panoramic views via rugged hikes.
