Sokolniki Park
Moscow, Russia, Russia
Sokolniki Park in Moscow, Russia, is one of the city's largest and oldest green spaces, covering 516 hectares in the Sokolniki District and dating back to the 14th century when it served as royal falcon-hunting grounds for Moscow's grand princes.
Named after the falconers' quarter, it evolved under Peter the Great into a forested oasis with eight themed glades of birch, maple, linden, and oak trees, 13 ponds teeming with frogs and beavers, plus wildlife like owls, foxes, and elk.
Today it offers year-round fun including summer cycling on 10 km paths, boating, tennis, volleyball, beaches, and a treetop adventure course; winter ice skating, 45 km ski tracks, and go-karts; plus a funfair with a 35-meter Ferris wheel, rose and lilac gardens, and cultural events near Sokolniki metro station.
