St.Andreas Castle
Cham, Switzerland
St. Andreas Castle is a privately owned medieval castle situated on a peninsula in Lake Zug at Cham, in the canton of Zug, Switzerland, with origins tracing back to a primitive structure built between 1150 and 1220.
The site has evidence of human activity since at least 400 AD, including Roman artifacts, and the adjacent chapel has hosted religious ceremonies from Roman times through the 8th century when a nameless holy bishop conducted services there.
Recognized as a Swiss heritage site of national significance, the castle features Gothic and Romanesque architecture within a vast 67,000 square meter private park opened to the public twice yearly, blending ancient history with its role as a modern residential palace.
