Sturdza Palace
Romania, Romania
Sturdza Palace, located at Miclăușeni Monastery in Iași County, Romania, is a neo-Gothic castle built between 1880 and 1904 by George Sturdza and his wife Maria Ghica on the site of an 18th-century boyar manor, featuring ornate facades with turrets, blazons, Art Nouveau sculptures, a moat bridge, and lavish interiors of Dalmatian marble stairs, rosewood furnishings, and tempera-painted ceilings with Latin mottos.
Funded by forest sales and loans secured against the estate, it evoked Western feudal castles and Iași's Culture Palace while incorporating older manor elements, serving as a luxurious family residence until communist nationalization repurposed it as an orphanage.
Now part of the restored monastery complex donated by the family in 1990, the monument hosts cultural events amid its park, blending Moldavian noble heritage with spiritual legacy.
