Subic Bay
Philippines, Philippines
Subic Bay is a large, sheltered bay on the west coast of Luzon in the Philippines, roughly 100 kilometers northwest of Manila Bay and connected to the South China Sea.
It was once the site of a major U.S. Naval Base, which operated from the early 20th century until 1992 and played a key role in World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War because of its deep, well‑protected harbor and strategic location near Southeast Asia.
After the U.S. withdrew, the area was converted into the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, an industrial, commercial, and tourism hub with a free port, logistics and shipyard facilities, an international airport, and a range of leisure attractions such as beaches, diving spots, theme parks, and nature‑based activities that now draw both local and international visitors.
