The Nairobi Arboretum

The Nairobi Arboretum is a 30.4-hectare wooded park located in the Kilimani area of Nairobi, Kenya, just 3 kilometers from the city center along State House Road and adjacent to the State House.

Founded in 1907 by Mr. Battiscombe, the Deputy Conservator of Forests, it was originally established as a trial plot to test new forestry trees and fast-growing exotic species, later transform ing into a living collection of trees and being gazetted as a national reserve in 1932.

The arboretum contains approximately 350 species of both indigenous and exotic trees, along with shrubs, herbs, grasses, and other plants, creating a lush green landscape year-round. It serves as an important wildlife refuge, hosting over 100 bird species, butterflies, bats, hedgehinges, chameleons, and significant populations of Sykes and vervet monkeys native to Africa.
