The ruins of the Brassovia Fortress

The ruins of the Brașovia Fortress are the remains of a medieval stronghold that once stood on the saddle of Tâmpa Mountain overlooking the city of Brașov in Transylvania, Romania.

Built in the 13th–14th centuries by Transylvanian Saxons, the fortress served as a key defensive point for the town, using its elevated position and steep slopes to form a naturally protected fortress with thick stone walls and corner watchtowers.

It was largely demolished on the orders of John Hunyadi around 1455, yet its scattered walls and the later 81‑meter‑deep well from the 17th century still give visitors a glimpse of its former military importance and medieval engineering. 

Today the site is a quiet, atmospheric ruin accessible by hiking trail, valued more for its historical resonance and panoramic views of Brașov than for intact structures.
