Aw Barkhadle in Woqooyi Galbeed, Somaliland, hosts the revered shrine of Sheikh Yusuf bin Ahmad al-Kawneyn, known as Aw Barkhadle or "Blessed Father," a 10th-12th century Somali saint, scholar, and traveler credited with spreading Islam across the Horn of Africa, defeating local pagan leaders, and introducing innovations like fat-tailed sheep.

This ancient sacred site, predating Islam with pre-Christian burials, stelae, dolmens, and tree-trunk graves, served as a necropolis for Adal Sultanate and Ifat kingdom rulers who traced lineage to the saint, functioning as a pilgrimage center where Isaaq clans gather annually for siyaaro offerings and dispute resolution.

Blending Cushitic, Christian, and Islamic heritage over 2,000 years amid a ruined medieval town, it faces threats from erosion, looting, and modern burials, yet remains Somaliland's most significant spiritual landmark.
