Torre do Relógio de Queluz
Queluz, Portugal, Portugal
Torre do Relógio de Queluz is an elegant 18th-century clock tower in Queluz, Sintra municipality near Lisbon, Portugal, part of the late Rococo construction phase of the Palácio Nacional de Queluz during Queen D. Maria I's reign.
Designed around 1782 by architect Manuel Caetano de Sousa—who succeeded Mateus Vicente and Jean Baptiste Robillon—it adjoins a rectangular building originally housing the royal guard quarters, administration offices, and stables opposite the palace.
Featuring a clock on the first level, arched belfry openings with corner columns topped by firebreak pinnacles, and a bulbous dome with an oculus, the structure now forms part of the Pousada D. Maria I hotel, restored in the mid-20th century.
