Verified Tubbataha Bird Island

Philippines , Philippines

Tubbataha Bird Island, also known as Bird Islet, is a tiny 12,000-square-meter islet located within Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park in the Sulu Sea, approximately 150 kilometers southeast of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Philippines, and serves as the country's only bird sanctuary and Ramsar Site that is off-limits and highly restricted to the general public.

This magical uninhabited islet is a critical breeding ground for seven resident and endangered breeding species of seabirds, including red-footed boobies, brown boobies, crested terns, sooty terns, black noddies, brown noddies, white egrets, lesser and greater frigate birds, Christmas Island frigate birds, plovers, and whimbrels. The entire Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park spans 240,000 hectares and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a Philippine marine sanctuary, and a pristine diving area renowned for its exceptional marine biodiversity.

Access to Bird Islet is extremely limited and requires special approval from the Tubbataha Management Office Board, with only park rangers and authorized researchers permitted to visit, as the site is protected to preserve its unique ecological importance and provide a safe haven for seabird populations.
